Raja Sur Pratap of Marwar annexed the then Marwar region of the current Barmer district in western Rajasthan to his state. It is a matter of pride that the famous freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Late Shri Jai Narayan Vyas, hailed from this region. After independence, this district gained significance as a border district. Despite its significant geographical and cultural heritage, this region has lagged behind in educational facilities. In particular, from the perspective of women's education, the literacy rate of women in the area was only 6.18% and the literacy rate of Barmer was just 18.36%.
